Ready to Learn Makes the News!

Ready2LearnWatch news clip.

Ready to Learn is an ambitious early literacy project taking place in Umatilla, Union, Wallowa, Baker, and Grant counties. The goal of this project is to increase kindergarten readiness, high school graduation, and matriculation to college by coordinating early childhood education across organizations and agencies and depositing money into Oregon College Savings Plans as an incentive to participating families. In addition, this project will be linking library usage statistics with children’s kindergarten readiness assessment results to show the impact of libraries.

Ready to Learn is funded in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the Oregon State Library.

Mosley Wotta and Tony Smily @ Black Butte School

The Jefferson County Library and the Jefferson County Cultural Coalition partnered to bring local Central Oregon musicians, Tony Smile and Mosley Wotta, to every school in Jefferson County last spring. Librarian Patricia Smith says, “The students really got into his performance. I loved how Mosley Wotta incorporates early literacy into his programs.”

Mosley Wotta and Tony Smiley will be playing at Jefferson County Library’s summer reading grand finale. This program brings early literacy, summer reading, schools, the public library, and a cultural institution together to provide a fun language program for children whether or not they can get to the public library.
